Great Esker Park and Back River Weymouth MA

Great Esker Park is a geological formation along the Weymouth Back River in Weymouth, Massachusetts. This area was formed by a glacier 12,000 years ago. It includes a Nature Study Center and small museum, bird watching where visitors may see in the summer and spring months Osprey who live in man-made shelters on the river, hiking on nature trails, a playground and picnic area. Located on Elva Road, on the west side of the Back River and its salt marsh, the park features the highest esker in North America (90 ft), reversing falls, 237 acres (0.96 km2), and six miles (10 km) of trails. It is in Weymouth, opposite side of the river from Bare Cove Park in Hingham.
